DRAMA & IMPROV

Actors’ Studio

Actors’ Studio is a John Rennie program in which sixty students from grades nine to eleven, working as actors and technicians, mount two large-scale productions every year. This year, both shows are exploring a theme that reoccurs throughout history in literature and in theater…Witches!

Rehearsals are underway for the first show, Roald Dahl’s classic story The Witches, adapted by David Wood and directed by Ms Chalmers. Divided into seven short plays, it tells of one boy’s adventure when he and his fearless grandmother get mixed up in some child-hating witches’ evil scheme. It will be presented to the school and to the public during the first week of December.

Simultaneously being rehearsed is Dark of the Moon, John Rennie’s second production. Directed by Mr. Colley, the show will be presented at the end of January.

Improv

Many amazing performers tried out, but in the end, twenty students from grade eight to eleven have been chosen for John Rennie High School’s two improv teams. Coached by Ms Chalmers and alumni Logan Boyce and Bruce Malcolm, these teams will compete in the Quebec Improv Games in February.
