For Students

Community Office

The Community Office is located in the Great Hall near the back entrance of the school. It is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays and alternate Mondays.

John Rennie has a proud tradition of community involvement. Local and global outreach projects include, anti-bullying programs, Chick Chat, activities with local senior citizens, activities with local war veterans, animal rights initiatives, Children’s Care International, Lakeshore General Hospital, Peaceful Schools International, World Vision 30-Hour Famine and Amnesty International, to mention just a few. We also respond to current events and help when needed. Our projects are often student initiatives and our goal is to educate our student population about the needs of the student, the school, the community and the world at large.

  1. There is a “Volunteer Opportunity” board posted outside the Community Office door. Please check it on a regular basis to find interesting volunteer opportunities available both in the school and in the community.
  2. Join the “Social Justice Committee!!” We meet twice monthly to organize events that are educational and we fundraise for organizations such at “Free the Children", “Children’s Care International”, "Dans la Rue” and “The World Wild Life Foundation". All students are welcome to join in at any time.
  3. The Community Office is also home of the JRHS lost and found. Please come and claim your lost eye glasses, pencil cases, lunch boxes and clothing!
  4. Volunteer trips to South America are organized once per year. Grade 10 and 11 student participants stay with host families and work in local schools and orphanages. They learn how to become better global citizens.

Please see Ms. Simatos for more information.
