Objective
The objective of the Venture program (also known as the
Training for a Semiskilled Trade in the Work-Oriented
Pathway) is to allow students to develop life and work
skills that they would not necessarily build in the
general education stream.
In addition to supporting students’ interest and
motivation, opportunities are provided for students to
put their learning into practice by participating on a
supervised work placement (375 hours to be completed in
one year).
Classroom academics are taught to further enrich and
reinforce the learning experience through the program's
curriculum over the various subject areas (English,
French, Math, Preparation for the Job Market and
Exploration of Vocational Trades). This is done in a
classroom with a low student to teacher ratio to allow
for more one-on-one help for struggling students.
Program Content
As mentioned above, the program content is two-fold:
there is the academic side (which includes the classroom
subjects) and the field placement side (of which
students will be placed at an actual job and will be
expected to attend work during the allotted periods).
The academic side and the field placements often blend
together to help students adjust to the realities of
work / life and to make new connections between what is
taught in schools and the demands of the job market.
Term Assessment
Academic grades in the Venture program are distributed
based upon competencies set forth by the
Ministère de l'Éducation, du Loisir et du Sport
for the end of Secondary Cycle 1 (exceptions are for
program exclusive courses: Preparation for the Job
Market, Preparation for a Semiskilled Trade and
Exploration of Vocational Trades).
Successful completion of this one year program can lead
to a ministerial Pre-work Training Certificate (PWTC).
