winning the GMAA championship, making it two in a

Hats for Haiti |
|
 |
On Tuesday January 19th, students and staff at
JRHS held a "Hats for Haiti" fund raiser for the victims of the
earthquake in Haiti. Staff
and students paid $1.00 for the privilege
to wear a hat for the day. The students’ hands were stamped as
proof of payment. Many students, who did not wear hats donated
money anyway, and their hands were stamped because they "had a
heart." |
|
We were able to raise over $5000.00 to help
Haiti; the Canadian government will match this amount! To date
we have never experienced such a generous response on the part
of our students. We feel that our students felt less helpless
about the tragic event in Haiti because we gave them the
opportunity to help in some way! Thank you to the John Rennie
Community for your participation. |

Thursday, January 21, 2010 edition of the West Island Gazette.
(It should be noted that since the Montreal Gazette's article
appeared on Thursday, more donations brought the total amount
raised to over $5,000.) |
