COMMUNITY OFFICE

What’s happening in the Community Office in October?

On Nov. 4th, Ms. Favretto's grade seven students very happily raked leaves for some of our Pointe Claire elders. They walked from the school to the properties and did a fantastic job of clearing out the yards. Students were treated to cookies at some of the houses as the residents were extremely grateful for our help!!! Thank you to the Pointe Claire city employees who helped organize and supervise this activity. A great time was had by all.  Please visit our Photo Galley for photos (JRHS Rake Crew album).

On Oct. 27th, Roxana Robin, founder of Children's Care International, spoke with our grade 7 and 8 students about child slavery and child exploitation in the world and how it must be stopped!!! Roxana emphasized the need for us to help by buying fair trade products. Many students were inspired by this assembly and wanted to become involved in helping, any way they can.

Grade seven students will participate in a Remembrance Day procession, through the School, on Nov. 11. A piper will lead followed by local War Veterans, our Principal and the VP's along with Cadets and JRHS students from all grade levels. Our student will carry posters with the names of Canadian soldiers who have been killed in Afghanistan recently.

Students have begun organizing themselves to introduce Free The Children to our school. Interesting ideas will be explored over the next few weeks. We will report what approach they will be taking as soon as possible.
